Overview
The Ford F-150 Lightning stands out in the electric pickup truck segment, embodying everything we love about the traditional F-150 in an electrified form. It retains the familiar F-150 styling while offering impressive range estimates, competitive pricing, and cutting-edge technology, including hands-free highway driving. Essentially, it’s an electric version of the beloved F-150 crew cab, featuring two electric motors and a sizable battery pack. Opting for the larger battery pack boosts power to 580 horsepower and provides ample range, as demonstrated by our real-world Edmunds EV Range Test, where we achieved an impressive 345-mile range on a single charge.
What’s New for 2024?
For 2024, the F-150 Lightning lineup introduces the limited Platinum Black edition, featuring a sleek black appearance package exclusive to the Platinum trim. Limited to just 2,000 units, it includes a matte-black body wrap, distinctive black badging, 22-inch black wheels, and black leather seats. Additionally, a new Flash model, positioned between the XLT and Lariat trims, emphasizes advanced technology. These updates enhance the range’s appeal, offering more customization options for buyers.

Interior Comfort
The Ford F-150 Lightning’s interior mirrors that of its regular F-150 counterpart, retaining familiar elements while boasting unique high-tech features.
For instance, it offers a standard 12-inch touchscreen, with an optional 15.5-inch screen for added convenience.
In terms of space, every F-150 Lightning sports a crew cab body with ample rear legroom, measuring 43.6 inches. This matches the roominess of the gas-powered F-150 crew cab, surpassing competitors like the Rivian R1T, which only offers 36.6 inches of rear legroom.
One distinctive feature of the F-150 Lightning is its sizable “frunk” located under the front hood, providing 14.1 cubic feet of storage space — roughly equivalent to the trunk size of a Honda Civic. Additionally, the interior boasts clever amenities such as power outlets, a cargo net, and a vertically flipping floor panel that serves as a divider for enhanced organization.
Exterior Styling
At first glance, the Ford F-150 Lightning may not immediately scream “electric vehicle.”
Resembling its gas-powered counterpart, its exterior design exudes a conventional truck vibe with subtle high-tech touches, such as a distinctive LED light signature.
Unlike the standard F-150, the Lightning offers less customization, featuring a crew cab paired with a 5.5-foot bed as standard across all models.
