Britain’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell hit back at ‘fix’ claims surrounding the show during Sunday’s final following backlash before Sydnie Christmas was crowned the winner
Britain’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell hit back at ‘fix’ claims surrounding the show during Sunday’s final.
During the latest instalment, the audience crowned their winner and Sydnie Christmas took home the incredible £250,000 cash prize as well as a chance to perform at the Royal Variety Performance later this year.
However, the win was subjected to ‘fix’ claims after spotting a ‘clue’ that Sydnie was going to win. Some fans believe that Sydnie performing last would mean that she would win. One wrote: “Biggest fix there is. #BGT #BritainsGotTalent,” whilst a second added: “If Sydney wins it’s such a fix. So much favouritism all series #BGT #BritainsGotTalent.”
While a third added: “I’m sorry, but I can just see this being a fix. Sydnie was probably going win from day one. #BGT #BritainsGotTalent.” Prior to Sydnie being crowned the winner, judge Simon, 64, hit back at ‘fix’ claims saying: “Winning is important, but, you know, getting into this final and importantly, doing something great, will actually make a difference.

“You know what was interesting? I worked out, I don’t think a single act tonight were professionals. They all had a regular job and they did something extraordinary.” This year’s Britain’s Got Talent revealed Sydnie Christmas to the public as the first act to be awarded a Golden Buzzer, and a free pass to the live semi-finals, by judge Amanda Holden following her tear-jerking rendition of Tomorrow from the musical Annie.
While ITV viewers were quick to point out her past on the West End, criticising her for taking part in the competition despite having previous experience in showbusiness, Sydnie has been growing from strength to strength and her talents have received recognition from one of her favourite artists.
Sydnie was branded a firm favourite to win a spot at the Royal Variety Performance by bookies with Ladbrokes having the 28-year-old gym worker at 2/5 to win the talent show.
Speaking after her win on Sunday, she said: “I cannot believe the amount of love I’ve felt since it aired. It’s absolutely – oh my God. I am overwhelmed with love and I wish for one day that everyone feels the way I do. It’s amazing, thank you so much.”
A total of 11 acts performed once more, including singer Innocent Masuku, SSaulabi Performance Troupe, magician Jack Rhodes, dancers Haribow, singer Sydnie Christmas, musical impressionist Mike Woodhams, dancing duo Abigail and Afronitaaa, the Northants Sing Out choir, comedian Alex Mitchell and magician Trixy, as well as the wildcard act which was canine act, The TrickStars.
