The Sony Spider-Man Universe has seen its fair share of ups and downs. From Toby Maguire’s glory days as the titular web-slinger to Madame Web‘s disaster of a mess, the franchise has experimented a lot with its characters. Andrew Garfield’s version of the friendly neighborhood web-crawler stands somewhere in between.
However, there is still a significant portion of the fanbase that loved Garfield’s iteration of Spider-Man. After Spider-Man: No Way Home‘s success, there’s still a wish to see him complete The Amazing Spider-Man trilogy.
At the time of release, The Amazing Spider-Man series wasn’t as critically successful as fans initially thought. Despite their several flaws, the movies gained cult status due to Andrew Garfield’s stellar performance. And now, after No Way Home‘s success, it seems like Sony is testing the waters to check and see if they can bring back TASM series.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was recently re-released in theatres for a limited time as part of Columbia Pictures’ 100th anniversary celebration, and fans are intrigued as well as excited. The movie will be re-released once again in the UK in August, and we might be seeing a pattern here.
After the massive failure of Madame Web, Sony might be looking at a back-to-basics approach, i.e., trying to revive their most successful IP, Spider-Man. There hasn’t been a Spider-Man film in the SSU since 2014, and it looks like the ball is in the audiences’ court right now.
There have been whispers and murmurs of a third The Amazing Spider-Man movie in the talks. Or a way to bring Garfield’s Spider-Man back to the SSU, especially after the reponse his presen in No Way Home. And a very simple act of the fans can actually make that happen.
Sony might currently be checking the room for The Amazing Spider-Man fanbase using the re-releases, which is a very common strategy used by studios to see which IPs gain more attention. So, if the fans flock to the theatres to watch them, they might bring back the IP in question.
There are also rumors of Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Man taking a trip to the Venomverse. A speculated plot leak stated that while trying to get home from the MCU, Garfield’s Spidey would accidentally trip and fall into Tom Hardy‘s Venom universe, where they join forces for a buddy-cop-style movie.
So, if you are one of those who wants to see the return of Garfield’s Spider-Man, watch TASM series and make the studio known loud and clear that you want him back!
