10 Disney Movie Scenes for Adults (That Go Over Kids’ Heads
Disney movies have always been enjoyed by children and adults alike. The fantastical stories and lovable characters have delighted fans for over a century. Yet, it appears that to stay relevant and entertaining, Disney creators throw in more suggestive content from time to time. These scenes typically go over kids’ heads, but the adults who watch the films are more than clued in.
These scenes range from historical allusions to racier content. Some scenes even hint at obscene language that adults might pick up on, but the kids don’t. Some of these scenes are more controversial than others, but there’s no denying that they add some color to their films.
Mrs. Nesbitt Has Tea With Two Sisters

Metascore: | 96% |

Toy Story is a beloved film that delves into the harsh realities of loneliness and loss of identity. This is especially true of Buzz Lightyear after he finally realizes that he’s just a toy. Buzz does not take to the truth well and ends up drowning his sorrows in tea with some of Sid’s sister’s dolls.
When Woody finds him, Buzz is sitting at the table with the dolls, slurring his words and referring to himself as Mrs. Nesbitt. Adult fans took this as Buzz being intoxicated from drinking “tea.” However, there is another joke in this scene when Buzz refers to the headless dolls he’s drinking with as “Marie Antoinette and her little sister.” History buffs will remember that Marie Antoinette – a French Queen – was infamously beheaded during the French Revolution. Referring to a headless doll as “Marie Antoinette” is a callback to the real person’s untimely demise.
Hercules Needs an Emergency Number
“Somebody call IXII!”
IMDb: | 7.3/10 |
---|---|
Metascore: | 74% |
Rotten Tomatoes: | 82% |
The Russo Brothers reveal the latest status update on the live-action remake of Hercules at Disney.
Hercules follows the rocky road from zero to hero for the titular character. Even once he becomes incredibly strong, no one seems to take him seriously until Megara rushes to Hercules’s side, claiming that a rock slide trapped two little boys. Ever the chivalrous champion, Hercules rushes to the scene to find two boys under a boulder crying for help. One even shouts out for someone to call “IXII!“.
This may seem like a simple jumble of numbers to younger viewers, but anyone who knows Roman numerals will understand this gag. When translated into modern numbers, the boy is really shouting for someone to call, “911!”. His cry is a comical joke for viewers, considering when and where Hercules takes place.

Cogsworth Gives Dating Advice
“Flowers… Chocolates… Promises you don’t intend to keep.”
IMDb: | 8.0/10 |
---|---|
Metascore: | 95% |
Rotten Tomatoes: | 93% |
When the Beast begins to fall for Belle in the box office hit Beauty and the Beast, he doesn’t want to mess things up by doing something untoward. As such, he consults his trusted advisor, Cogsworth, for answers. Sadly, Cogsworth doesn’t appear to have had many good experiences in the love department, as he gives the Beast some bad (but relatable) advice.
Cogsworth tells the Beast that he could gift chocolates or flowers to Belle. Then, he also suggests that the Beast could make promises to Belle that he doesn’t intend to keep. Thankfully, Lumiere chimes in with better tutelage, but Cogsworth’s suggestion is all too real for people who’ve been in relationships where one person couldn’t follow through. It seems like a throwaway line. However, fans in the know enjoyed this nod to an unfortunate truth.
Literal Sloths Work at the DMV
“They’re SLOTHS!”
IMDb: | 8.0/10 |
---|---|
Metascore: | 78% |
Rotten Tomatoes: | 98% |
To any adult who’s been to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), it’s a known fact how mind-numbingly slow the experience can be. Therefore, it was extra hilarious for adults who watched Zootopia to discover that the Zootopia DMV is run by sloths. Sloths are some of the slowest creatures on earth. Many of them even grow mold on their bodies because of how slowly they move.
Kids may not have understood the humor behind Flash’s frustratingly slow pace, but it was golden to adults. This scene is one of the funniest Disney scenes meant for adults because it hits at a universal truth to which so many people can relate. Plus, Judy Hopps’s impatience was all too familiar to anyone who’s experienced the DMV.
Bunnies Are Good at “Math”
“We are good at multiplying.”
Bunnies Are Good At Multiplying – Zootopia (Clip)

IMDb: | 8.0/10 |

Metascore: | 78% |
Rotten Tomatoes: | 98% |
Judy Hopps is the newest officer in the First Precinct in Zootopia. As such, she hopes to do the best she can in her first few days on the force. Unfortunately, things don’t go as planned until Judy clues in on a con artist named Nick Wilde.
When Judy confronts Nick about his alleged criminal activities, he tries to pay it off. However, Judy catches him on a technicality when something he says implies that he hasn’t paid any taxes on any income since he was twelve. Judy not only records his words but also tells him that she’s calculated his tax filings because, after all, “[Bunnies] are good at multiplying.” Judy is speaking about her skills in mathematics, but older viewers know that the stereotype for rabbits is that they procreate often. Judy’s line seems innocent enough unless audiences know that the word “multiplying” can have multiple meanings.
Barbie Likes Ken’s Ascot
“Nice ascot!”
IMDb: | 8.3/10 |
---|---|
Metascore: | 92% |
Rotten Tomatoes: | 98% |
A clip from the classic Pixar sequel Toy Story 3 has left fans debating in retrospect, wondering if a line from Barbie’s Ken is PG or profane.
Toy Story 3 is beloved for its heartfelt story of leaving childhood behind. Yet, some adults thought it left childhood a little too far behind with one scene in particular. When Andy’s toys arrive at Sunnyside Daycare, Barbie is elated to find a Ken doll with his very own Dream House. Barbie and Ken form an immediate connection upon meeting each other. He compliments her on her leg warmers while she tells him, “Nice ascot.”
For people who haven’t seen the film, this might seem like a harmless compliment. Unfortunately, Barbie purposefully holds the ‘s’ in ‘ascot’ a little too long to imply that she likes another aspect of Ken’s personage. This humorous wordplay almost gives the joke away to kids in the know, but it’s just subtle enough to still pass by most children’s notice. This scene is certainly one of the cheekier and funniest adult-oriented scenes in any Disney movie.
Hector Changes the Lyrics
“And… her… knuckles they drag on the floor.”
IMDb: | 8.4/10 |
---|---|
Metascore: | 81% |
Rotten Tomatoes: | 97% |
Miguel Rivera and Héctor become unlikely partners when Miguel becomes trapped in the Land of the Dead in Coco. Héctor shows Miguel all the neat places in the Afterlife, but also some of the darkest – including his home. While in the Afterlife slums, Miguel and Héctor meet with Héctor’s friend, Chicharron.
Since Chicharron is in danger of disappearing, he asks Héctor to play him one last song, to which Héctor obliges. However, part of the true lyrics of the song are deemed inappropriate by Héctor due to Miguel’s presence. Therefore, he sings, “And her…. Knuckles they drag on the floor.” Chichurron objects and tells him those aren’t the lyrics, but Héctor reminds him that a young person is present. Children may not know what Héctor was supposed to sing, but adults are aware that the true lyric was most likely relating to another aspect of female anatomy instead of “knuckles.”
Doc Has Three Piston Cups
“He did WHAT in his cup?”
IMDb: | 7.2/10 |
---|---|
Metascore: | 73% |
Rotten Tomatoes: | 75% |
In the Cars franchise, Lightning McQueen’s dream has always been to win the Piston Cup and garner a sponsorship from Dinoco. Little does he know when he is stranded in Radiator Springs that, he will be in the presence of greatness. When Lightning discovers that Doc used to race and won several Piston Cups, Mater hears things a little differently.
Rather than being in awe of Doc’s winnings, Mater instead utters the question, “He did what in his cup?” This question suggests that Mater took the phrase “Doc’s Piston Cups” to imply that the old racer had urinated into vessels. Not all the kids watching Cars would understand the double entendre, but adults were either cackling or grimacing at this line.
Mia & Tia’s Headlights Cause A Stir
“We’re like, your biggest fans! KA-CHOW!”
IMDb: | 7.2/10 |
---|---|
Metascore: | 73% |
Rotten Tomatoes: | 75% |
Lightning McQueen is used to the fame and spotlight. He also relishes in fan adoration. However, there are two fans in particular, twin sports cars named Mia and Tia, who take things a little too far. The twins approach Lightning McQueen at a press conference after the first race of the film and flash their headlights at him.
This seems perfectly innocent at first when taken literally. However, knowing fanatical fandom culture and being aware of the term “headlights” for the chest part of a female body changes the intention of this scene entirely. Pixar is known for putting suggestive scenes in its films. But Mia and Tia’s “headlights” scene is one of the most scandalous.
Anna Prefers Leather
“I prefer you in leather, anyway.”
Last Scenes – Frozen II (Clip)
Play Video
IMDb: | 6.8/10 |
---|---|
Metascore: | 64% |
Rotten Tomatoes: | 77% |
Frozen II presents Anna as the newest Queen of Arendelle at the end of the film. Audiences see her walking around the streets in her beautiful green velvet dress as she approaches her fiancé, Kristoff, as well as Sven and Olaf. All of them are dressed to the nines in honor of Anna’s big day.
Anna is impressed by their attire, but Kristoff assures her that she can only enjoy it for one hour, after which he’s going to change into his regular clothes. Anna snickers slightly before saying, “That’s okay. I prefer you in leather anyway.” This line not only stuns Kristoff, but audiences as well, who were unprepared for such a brazen quote. Children might not think much of Anna’s preferences. Adults, on the other hand, are all too familiar with what spicy shenanigans Anna is implying with this line.
