As the first two-seater convertible Cadillac model since the 1930s, the Cadillac Allanté was designed to allow Cadillac to better compete with the likes of Jaguar and Mercedes-Benz. Produced from model years 1987 to 1993, the Allanté was mildly successful, and sold roughly 2,700 units per year over the course of its lifespan. Now, a 1993 Cadillac Allanté Indy 500 Pace Car has been listed for sale in Nashville, Tennessee.
Posted online for just under $15,000, this Caddy luxury roadster appears to be in good condition in spite of the 98,000 miles on the odometer, while a red interior contrasts very nicely with a white exterior paint job. Interestingly, the dealership offers up no documentation on this Allanté.
With a quick glance over the exterior, we find the Indy 500 pace car graphics adorning on each side of the luxury roadster, which is a dead giveaway that this Allanté is unique. Of course, as a roadster, the hard and soft tops are a big draw, while factory chrome plated alloy wheels are wrapped in a set of Vouge Custom Built tires.
An interesting piece worth noting is that the body of the Allanté was designed and built in Italy, which was then shipped over to Detroit for final assembly.
Moving to the interior, everything is as what one may expect from a GM luxury car of this era, meaning lots of buttons and sharp corners. However, one notable spot in the cockpit is the unique gauge cluster, along with the pass-through to the trunk.
Under the hood is something truly special. Here we find the naturally aspirated 4.6L V8 L37 Northstar gasoline engine, rated at 295 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. What makes this powerplant unique is that it’s the one of the first mass-produced DOHC V8 engines that General Motors installed into a vehicle.
Output is routed to the front wheels via the GM four-speed automatic transmission.
So, what do you think of this unique piece of Caddy history? Could you see yourself forking over the cash for this 1993 Cadillac Allanté Pace Car? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below, and be sure to vote in the poll.
