Christian Linke and Alex Yee created the series, which is based on Riot Games’ League of Legends. The show sees sisters Vi (Hailee Steinfeld, Hawkeye) and Jinx (Ella Purnell, Fallout) caught up in a conflict between the rich city of Piltover and the oppressed underbelly of Zaun. The voice cast also includes Kevin Alejandro, Katie Leung, Jason Spisak, Toks Olagundoye, Harry Lloyd, JB Blanc, Reed Shannon, and Mick Wingert.

The first season drew very high viewership upon its premiere, ranking first on the Netflix Top 10 chart in 52 countries. It would come to be embraced as one of the best video game adaptations ever made, earning a perfect 100% score from critics at Rotten Tomatoes. It also became the first streaming show to win the Emmy for Outstanding Animated Program. It’s no surprise why Netflix would want a second season, though animation often takes a very long time to complete, hence the resulting wait.
Tragic ending in season 1.
After the final episode of Season 1 aired on November 20, 2021, Riot Games announced that Arcane Season 2 was already in production.
It was predicted to be an emotional season. Ella Purnell (Jinx’s VA) said: “I actually just went back into the studio to complete some ADR [automated dialog replacement] for the season 2 finale – and I cried. So, I think other people will cry, too. It’s devastating, and nobody will feel good after watching it.”
Arcane‘s second season will start streaming on Netflix in November 2024.
