Elden Ring Mods Have Fixed What Hidetaka Miyazaki Failed to With Shadow of the Erdtree

SUMMARY

  • Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree is FromSoftware at its most difficult.
  • While Miyazaki did this on purpose, the community has teamed up to bring the difficulty reducing mod to the DLC.
  • Shadow of the Erdtree Journalist Mode offers two difficulty settings, allowing players to take 50% less damage or become invincible.

Being a Tarnished one isn’t easy these days. Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is live, and with it came many new bosses from the Lands Between seeking the death of the protagonist.

FromSoftware games are known for their punishing difficulty. Hidetaka Miyazaki, the director of Elden Ring has turned everything up a notch with Shadow of the Erdtree making it one of the most difficult games he has ever created. However, the modding community has stepped in to fix this with a couple of solutions.

The Newest Elden Ring Mod Makes Shadow of the Erdtree a Walk in the Park

Hidetaka Miyazaki has said that the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion to the 2022 game of the year is by far the biggest in scale and volume than any other FromSoftware DLC. The new content includes numerous nightmarish bosses both necessary to progress the story and optional, while Miyazaki has said that the optional ones are far more difficult.

With that said, the modding community has stepped in. The latest Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Journalist Mode modifies the function of the Crimson Amber Medallion, the starting keepsake.

The mod offers two difficulty settings through the medallion:

  • Journalist Mode: This mode grants the player a 50% reduction in all damage taken. This allows players to focus on exploring the expansion without constant setbacks from punishing combat encounters.
  • Researcher Mode: For those who want to breeze through the expansion the Researcher Mode completely negates all damage taken, making players invincible.

The setback for this mod, like every other mod for the game, is that it requires using the offline launcher.

Shadow Of the Erdtree Brings Scadutree Fragments

While Shadow of the Erdtree does increase the difficulty, there is no need to reach for mods or fear the bosses. There is a whole new built-in, lore-friendly way to progress the Lands Between.

The expansion has brought new consumable items, Scadutree Fragments, and Revered Spirit Ashes, which further improve your character.

Fragments are new consumables that improve the attack and defense of your character and can be used at any Site of Grace. On the other hand, Revered Spirit Ashes are an upgrade material that improves your summoned allies increasing damage and defense.

With the difficulty increased, these consumables are a natural way of facing enemies. These are a great addition and won’t break the game like mods. However, many players feel that Miyazaki went a bit too far and the community has made a stand with the Journalist Mode mod.

The particular mod is a middle ground to the struggling Tarnished who want to fully enjoy the lore and gameplay.

So, Tarnished, will you go through the Shadow Realm with the in-game addition from FromSoftware, or will you opt for the latest mod? Let us know in the comments below.
