Elden Ring: Mohg Isn’t the Only Optional Boss You Have to Beat to Play the DLC

Elden Ring players who want to access the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC will need to beat both Mohg, Lord of Blood and Starscourge Radahn. Many Elden Ring players have long been aware of the necessity to defeat Mohg to play the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, but they may not have realized that Mohg is just one of the optional bosses that must be defeated to access the new content.

The necessity to defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood to access the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has been obvious to Elden Ring players ever since the first trailer dropped. The Shadow of the Erdtree reveal trailer confirmed the expansion’s focus on Miquella, whose cocoon is located in the same area where players fight Mohg. Mohg is definitely going to be the toughest obstacle for Elden Ring players to overcome if they want to play the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, but there’s another challenging boss they will have to take on as well.

Malenia about to battle Radahn

Here’s where to find and how to reach Starscourge Radahn in Elden Ring, one of the main bosses.

Before Elden Ring players can play the DLC, they have to beat Starscourge Radahn . Radahn is a boss that many Elden Ring players end up fighting anyway, as the Sites of Grace lead right to him. However, he is technically an optional boss and does not need to be defeated for one to beat the game. Because of this, it’s entirely possible that Elden Ring players have not defeated Radahn on their saves. So, anyone booting up their Elden Ring save to double-check that they have Mohg defeated will also want to see if they’ve bested Radahn on their current save file.

Where to Find Radahn in Elden Ring

  • Redmane Castle in Caelid
  • Radahn Festival must be active to access the boss fight

Elden Ring players that have managed to defeat Mohg should have a fairly easy time fighting Radahn, as he is meant to be fought significantly earlier in any given playthrough. A portal at Redmane Castle in Caelid will teleport players to the battleground where they fight Radahn, but they first must activate the Festival of Radahn. Players can accomplish this by going through the steps in Ranni’s questline, or they can do it by activating a Site of Grace in the Atlus Plateau.

Fighting Radahn in Elden Ring can be a tall order for newer players, but as previously mentioned, it shouldn’t be too difficult for anyone who has managed to progress far enough to beat Mohg. Once Radahn and Mohg have both been defeated, Elden Ring players can jump into the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC and start a fresh adventure in the Lands Between.
