One of the first enemies you’ll see as you enter the Shadow Of The Erdtree DLC map of Elden Ring is Furnace Golems, who are nearly impossible to beat unless you know their weaknesses. These Golems are giants with a variety of huge fire attacks that can take out your character quickly. A traditional approach might get you killed, so you need to approach one prepared with the right strategy.

Furnace Golems are essentially the new Tree Sentinel , as they are one of the first enemies you run into close to the Gravesite Plain Site of Grace as you begin exploring the new DLC map. These are not rare enemies in Shadow Of The Erdtree, as you can spot them from far away. Be careful not to get too close since these creatures will target you from a fair distance.
Elden Ring players took to social media to discuss the unexpected, yet unsurprising difficulty of the game’s crushing Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.
How To Defeat Furnace Golems in Elden Ring: Shadow Of The Erdtree
Aim For Their Legs And Jump Over Fire Shockwaves
When approaching a Furnace Golem, the best way to take it down is to remain on Torrent at all times, break the Poise on the creature’s legs, and hit a visceral attack when it goes down. You want to stay right under the Golem as best you can while using Torrent’s double jump to avoid huge AoE fire attacks. While doing this, keep up the pressure on both the target’s legs to make it fall after a relentless assault.
Furnace Golem Move List | ||
---|---|---|
Attack | Description | How To Counter |
Furnace Stomp | The Furnace Golem raises whatever foot is closest to its target before slamming it back down, causing a huge fire AoE shockwave on impact. | Use Torrent to double jump over the fire shockwave, but not into the boss’ foot. |
Fire Fling | When you are far away, the Golem will take some fire from inside its head and throw it a great distance toward you, leaving a large trail of fire from the projectile. | Run away from the boss to either side to avoid this linear attack. |
Leaping Wildfire | When on lower health, the Furnace Golem will set both of its legs on fire before jumping into the air, slamming back down to create another AoE of fire around it. | Run back from the boss, then use Torrent’s jump to leap over the fire shockwave. |
Burning Grab | The Furnace Golem leans toward the ground before raising one of its hand, sweeping it in front of itself to try and grab your character. If you are grabbed, you are thrown into the fire on its head and instantly die. | Stay behind the boss at all times to avoid ever getting hit by this attack. |
Once you break the Poise on both of the Furnace Golem’s legs using a strong weapon in Elden Ring, the whole creature will collapse. This will reveal a spot near the Golem’s head where you can perform a visceral attack, which deals massive damage to the boss. You only need one to three visceral attacks to kill the Golem depending on the strength of the weapon you’re using within the DLC.

Some of the new spells from Shadow Of The Erdtree may help you defeat Golems if your character build isn’t focused on melee strikes. Aim spells into a Golem’s face to deal good damage from afar, but watch out for its Fire Fling attack while doing this. Although using magic will make it take longer to beat a Furnace Golem in Elden Ring, the rare rewards they drop are more than worth the effort.
