New Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree Trailer Reveals Miquella’s Voice
Bandai Namco has now shared the final, launch trailer for the expansion. With a runtime of 3 minutes and 18 seconds, the newly unveiled promo is the longest Shadow of the Erdtree trailer to date. The video itself goes over several dozen moments from the expansion, both big and small. It also serves as the long-awaited reveal of the voice of Elden Ring‘s Miquella, the demigod at the center of the DLC’s story. Miquella was originally voiced by British-American-Irish actress Naomi McDonald, although her initial work was part of content that was cut from the base game. FromSoftware hasn’t yet confirmed whether it brought McDonald back for Shadow of the Erdtree.

Miquella can first be heard at the start of the trailer, referring to someone as both his “loyal blade” and “champion of the festival.” Assuming that latter descriptor is a reference to Elden Ring‘s Radahn Festival, the person whom Miquella is addressing is most likely the Tarnished. The demigod can once again be heard at the very end of the trailer, asking someone to promise to be his “consort.” To whom this particular remark is addressed is less clear.
The trailer also features a handful of distinct-looking biomes, thus offering yet another strong indicator that the Land of Shadow will boast impressive environmental variety. While FromSoftware President Hidetaka Miyazaki previously likened the size of the expansion’s map to that of Limgrave, numerous Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree previews and reviews alike have subsequently suggested that the new region is even larger and significantly denser.
Another notable moment in the trailer, which happens around the 1:40 mark, features someone crushing a golden eye. The hand appears to match that of Messmer, the Impaler, as seen in Bandai Namco’s previously shared marketing materials. Given how the hand itself is bloody, this might be an excerpt from a cutscene that plays after the inevitable fight with Messmer, or perhaps during it, assuming that the encounter will have two phases, as many important Elden Ring bosses do. Shadow of the Erdtree releases on June 21 at midnight, local time, in most parts of the world. However, fans in North America can play it starting from 9pm PT / 11pm ET on June 20.
