The telly chef explained he had been out riding his bike in the US, when he was involved in an incident.

“This week I had a really bad accident while riding my bike in Connecticut,” he explained.

“I’m doing ok and did not break any bones or suffer any major injuries but I am a bit bruised up looking like a purple potato.

“I’m thankful for all the doctors, nurses and staff at Lawerence + Memorial Hospital in New London who looked after me and checked me out.”

Gordon had a key warning to fans on Instagram, adding: “With #FathersDay tomorrow I have very important message for all the dads out there…WEAR A HELMET!

“… [I’m] most thankful for my helmet that saved my life. Have a great Father’s Day and be safe.”

Crediting his helmet with saving his life, Gordon explained that the accident ‘really shook’ him, adding that he’s ‘lucky to be here’.

“I don’t care how short the journey is,” he said.

“I don’t care that they cost money… they’re crucial.

“… I’m lucky to be standing here. I’m in pain, it’s been a brutal week and I’m sort of getting through it.”

Towards the end of the clip, Gordon lifted his chef’s jacket to reveal a horrific injury, with the side of his torso dark purple in colour.

He also shared two photos, one of him stood by his bike before the ride and a second image, which showed his crushed helmet and ripped jersey following the accident.

People were horrified after watching Gordon’s video, with many flooding to the comments to offer support to the TV chef.
