Elizabeth Olsen’s portrayal of Scarlet Witch has been universally praised for bringing a certain vulnerability and emotion to a highly powerful character. In the last two Avengers films, WandaVision and Doctor Strange 2, the MCU showed the complex nature of the character, and her evolution is arguably one of the best in the universe.

The character has also been involved in some stories in the What If…? animated series on Disney+. The new season of the show surprisingly introduced new powers of the character that fans have not seen before in the MCU.

What If…? Season 2 Showcases Scarlet Witch’s New God-Level Powers

Scarlet Witch’s powers were at its peak in Doctor Strange 2

Scarlet Witch has been a highly overpowered character in comics. The live-action version of the character played by Elizabeth Olsen brought some level of relatability and vulnerability to the character while still keeping her core powers intact. In the What If..? series the makers have utilized the character’s overpowered nature in their grand storytelling.

In the second season of the show, the character is seen involved in some significant episodes involving the Avengers. She showcased some new powers that audiences have not seen in the MCU while giving her a new edge and ferocity. Here are three new powers that the makers of the show introduced in season 2.

1. Scarlet Witch Has the Ability to Open Multiversal Portals

In the new season of What If…? Hayley Atwell’s Captain Carter has a huge role and is an overarching character in most of the episodes. In episode 8 it is revealed that the Scarlet Witch opened a portal and brought in Carter in The Renaissance-Era to help stop an incursion.

The character has never had this level of power before and while America Chavez had this power in Doctor Strange 2, this upgrade to Wanda brings a whole new dynamic to the character. It will be interesting if this is implemented in live-action in some way in the future.

2. Scarlet Witch Holds Off Thor And An Incursion at The Same Time

In episode 8 of What If…? season 2. Scarlet Witch is seen serving the Renaissance-Era version of King Thor. As Captain Carter is blamed for killing Hela, Thor sends Happy Hogan and the Yellowjackets to destroy her as well. In the climax of the episode, the gang formed by Carter works together to find out the forerunner of the incursion.

Scarlet Witch teams up with Carter and defends her from Thor. The character is also seen holding off an incursion at the same time and it is incredible to see such a level of power upgrade from the character. Holding off such powerful forces is a Herculean task and Wanda manages to pull it off and save the universe from a dangerous incursion.

3. Scarlet Witch Has the Ability to Revive The Dead

In the finale of What If…? season 2, Captain Carter and Doctor Strange go on a quest to search for an escaped universe killer. In the later parts of the episode, it is revealed that ‘Evil’ Doctor Strange has been capturing heroes and villains from various universes, to restore his own universe.

When Captain Carter releases the captured variants of different individuals that are captured by Strange, she and Kahhori encounter a zombie version of the Scarlet Witch who can summon the bodies/souls of deceased creatures and obey her orders. This is another of the character’s impressive new abilities which can be very exciting to see in live-action.
