Harry Potter & Pixar Crossover Art Imagines Makes Us Want A Spinoff Animated Series

  • Fan art imagines Pixar-style spinoff movies for Harry Potter characters.
  • Harry Potter is a multimedia franchise that includes books, films, video games, and attractions at Universal Studios.
  • The imagined spinoffs follow characters including Voldemort, Hagrid, and Professor Lupin.

Harry Potter characters have been given Pixar-style spinoffs in new fan art. The expansive Harry Potter franchise, also known as the Wizarding World, began with the seven-part series of children’s fantasy books of the same name that were published between 1997 and 2007. The books, which were adapted into eight movies between 2001 and 2011 (not including the three Fantastic Beasts prequel movies) follow a young boy named Harry Potter who learns that he is a wizard on his eleventh birthday and is whisked off to study at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

On Instagram, the account hogwarts.station shared a collection of images (credited to the user Baobab707) imagining the posters for Pixar-style spinoff movies featuring various Harry Potter characters.

While none of the spinoffs imagined in this art actually exist, some of the pieces showcase backstories that have already appeared in the Harry Potter canon. This includes the Lord Voldemort origin story. Voldemort, who was born Tom Marvolo Riddle, has his backstory extensively explored in book 6, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which features Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore teaching Harry about the dark wizard’s past and the best way to finally defeat him.

Half-Blood Prince introduces the Horcruxes, a set of magically imbued objects that contain pieces of Voldemort’s soul and have strong connections to his past.

Hagrid’s backstory was also explored thoroughly in both book 2, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and book 4, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The former revealed the reason the groundskeeper was expelled from Hogwarts and barred from using magic, while the latter explored his half-giant heritage. Severus Snape’s origins also appeared in the books, with his time at Hogwarts being explored in book 5, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and his childhood and star-crossed love story explained in book 7, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

However, most of the Hogwarts professors do not have fully fleshed-out backstories on the page. While some of Remus Lupin’s time at Hogwarts has been explained in book 3, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban as well as Order of the Phoenix, the only thing that is known of his early years is the fact that he was turned into a werewolf by the vicious Fenrir Greyback. The backstories of the Harry Potter characters Sprout, Flitwick, and McGonagall are even less fleshed out and almost entirely unknown, making their imagined spinoffs more mysterious.
