Elizabeth Olsen rose to global fame through her role as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Beyond the MCU, she has garnered critical acclaim for various roles, including her debut film Martha Marcy May MarleneWind River, and the 2018 series Sorry for Your Loss, for which she also served as an executive producer.

One of her box office disasters was the 2013 Spike Lee-directed film Oldboy. Despite commendable performances, the movie faced criticism for not living up to its original Korean version. Interestingly, Olsen’s Avengers: Endgame co-star, Josh Brolin was paired opposite her, and things got uncomfortable real fast.

Elizabeth Olsen revealed that her love-making scenes in Oldboy were particularly difficult. Olsen took on the role after pursuing the script but found the story unsettling. The Ingrid Goes West actress was heartbroken and disturbed by the movie’s morally ambiguous plot. However, the 34-year-old actress praised her director, stating that Spike Lee was supportive throughout. In an interview with Wenn, Olsen explained:

Furthermore, the Kodachrome actress later revealed that there were other distressing scenes in the film. Referring to a scene where she was attacked, Olsen said the scene stayed with her even days after and left a traumatic mark on her.

While Josh Brolin had shared the screen with Elizabeth Olsen in several MCU movies, Oldboy was a project they worked on before their roles in the Avengers series. The Liberal Arts actress’s discomfort during the s*x scene was lesser compared to her co-star Brolin, given that he has a daughter of similar age.

Elizabeth Olsen is no stranger to love scenes or getting naked for movie scenes. In a previous interview with Net-A-Porter’s digital magazine, The Edit, the Captain America: Civil War actress mentioned that she chooses to appear n*de in films only when she believes in the project’s artistic merit. Olsen emphasized she’ll never do a beauty shot in a bikini on a beach. She elaborated:

Both Olsen and Brolin delivered their best in Oldboy despite the film’s narrative shortcomings. While Brolin is set to appear in the upcoming comedy film Brothers, Olsen has completed shooting for her next project, His Three Daughters.
