SUMMARY

  • Hidetaka Miyazaki over the years has released many brilliant video game titles, launching FromSoftware to the top position in the industry.
  • This includes Bloodborne, a PlayStation Exclusive title which many die-hard fans debate is the best Miyazaki game till date.

Hidetaka Miyazaki has helped establish FromSoftware as one of the greatest game-producing houses in the whole industry, setting the studio apart from others by doing exceptionally well in the Dark Fantasy genre. Bloodborne is one such title, that remains a timeless classic, locked away from many gamers due to its exclusivity on PlayStation.

It has also been debated by the die-hard fans of the game how it is arguably the best Soulslike title produced to date, a school of thought that has been challenged ever since it was proposed. The argument, headed by how Bloodborne is one of the most gothic-inspired titles by Hidetaka Miyazaki turns out to have been debunked by the director himself, putting fans back to square one.

Elden Ring, an award-winning title released by FromSoftware in 2022 remains the best-selling game ever for the studio. It was also Hidetaka Miyazaki’s first proper venture into properly blending the open-world experience with the dark fantasy genre of video games he is known for.

Still, despite there being no clear answer to what remains the best Soulslike/ Soulsborne game of all time, fanatics have continued to debate how Bloodborne is the best gothic experience the director has ever worked on, something which was indirectly debunked by Miyazaki himself back in 2014 in an interview, via Games Radar:

Classical works of gothic horror, Lovecrafts Cthulhu Mythos, plus a few board games and TRPGs based on such themes. This isnt the first game of mine to draw on these roots, as most of my ideas are actually text-inspired. I guess that there were no curveballs regarding that, this time around.

The director made sure to mention how the PlayStation Exclusive he worked on back in 2014 was not the first title that drew inspiration from pieces of classic gothic horror. He also states how most of his ideas remain inspired by text that has already been curated, and there were no particular challenges faced following the same path again when it came to making Bloodborne.

How Bloodborne DLC Remains Superior To Elden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree In One Aspect

In merely 10 days from now, the much-awaited DLC for Elden Ring will finally hit the respective platforms, taking the players into the undiscovered realm of the Land of Shadow, where Queen Marika first set afoot. While it brings an addition to the storyline, new weapons, and much more, it still lacks something that the community will gravely miss.

The greatest way of motivating a gamer to dedicate more hours of his precious day to a video game is by providing an incentive, something which is often done through achievement trophies that are unlocked after players have met a certain criterion. The base Elden Ring offers the said incentive to the player. However, in true FromSoftware fashion, the game’s DLC will not contain any achievements to unlock, something which was implemented when Bloodborne’s DLC, The Old Hunters came out.
