Everyone asks where is Torrent. No one asks how is Torrent
SUMMARY
- A particular section of the DLC has scared Torrent away.
- Players can only traverse this area on foot.
- This may be the game’s way of asking players to explore at a slower pace.
Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree brings players to a newly introduced place called the Land of Shadow. It’s a hauntingly beautiful place where the Tarnished can find tougher enemies to fight, better weapons to wield, and new adventures to explore.
However, Torrent may not be having the best experience with all this. The player’s loyal companion has already been through a lot, and one particular place in Shadow of the Erdtree is an absolute “nope” for the poor thing.
Note: Minor spoilers for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
You Might Have to Explore Abyssal Woods on Your Own
Player Neko_Tyrant on Reddit was courageously exploring the newfound spaces in the expansion until they stumbled across an eerie-looking place that goes by the name of Abyssal Woods.
At first glance, this may seem like any other location in Elden Ring‘s DLC. However, something about the place just does not sit well with Torrent, and he will refuse to be your companion when exploring this area.
When a player decides to brave this area, this message shows up:
The Spectral Seed is frightened and cannot be summoned.
Why, you may ask. Well, there are no clear lore reasons for this for us to explore yet, but there’s a high chance that the writing’s on the wall. Or rather, a tree branch. Abyssal Woods is indeed a terrifying area that indirectly asks you to just stay away.
Given the premise of the game, you might as well keep poor Torrent out of the picture for this one. You’re on your own, Tarnished.
This May Just Be Hidetaka Miyazaki Asking Players to Take a Walk
Quite literally, this may just give players a good enough reason to get those steps in. After all, Shadow of the Erdtree is full of complex areas, and Torrent promises to be a worthy companion once again.
However, given the depths and secrets of the DLC, each area has unique things hidden under a garb of familiar terrain that players may miss. Sometimes, certain dungeons are hidden in plain sight, while some items may be found only after exploring an area on foot.
Regardless of how players choose to traverse the Shadow Realm, there are quite a few enigmatic sequences to go through here and Abyssal Woods is just a small part of the equation.
Once players cross paths with Rellana and exit Castle Ensis, there’s a whole new world of daunting quests and mysteries to explore, where Torrent will most likely remain your loyal companion.
