While 2023 was a disappointing year for superhero flicks, as most of them bombed at the box office, there were two outliers, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. In the latter’s case, being a follow-up to arguably the best superhero film of the last decade, Across the Spider-Verse, had some huge shoes to fill, and fortunately, it didn’t disappoint.

But among its incredibly stacked roster of Spider-Man from all around the multiverse, the breakout star was Miguel O’Hara’s Spider-Man 2099, who is arguably a better Kang than Kang himself. Per rumors, the MCU once approached Sony to incorporate the character in the multiversal saga.

MCU Apparently Wanted Miguel O’Hara to Join Forces with Jonathan Majors’ Kang

Although Kang was initially set up to be the next big thing since Thanos in the MCU, despite his multiple appearances, the character never really succeeded in creating an impact on fans. As for Miguel O’Hara, like Kang’s variant He Who Remains, he intends order in the multiverse, and thanks to some great writing, he comes as both threatening and sympathetic. While this was Spider-Man 2099’s first major appearance on the big screen, he instantly clicked with fans, and according to scooper Cryptic4KQual, the MCU wanted to incorporate him into its new chapter.

The scooper claimed that MCU was in talks with Sony to make Miguel form an alliance with Kang following their shared goals, but apparently, Sony felt it was a huge ask. This would’ve seen Kang getting power, whereas Miguel would’ve succeeded in his conquest for order and stability in the multiverse. While it can’t be said for certain how much weight these claims hold, even if this was once the case, it’s no longer feasible following Jonathan Majors‘ conviction last year.

Following the actor’s conviction for one count of assault and one count of harassment, the future of Kang, who was once set to be on par with Thanos, is stuck in limbo.

Miguel O’Hara Was Designed to Be a Thirst Trap from Day One

Apart from giving Kang a run for his money, thanks to the great writing, the animators also didn’t disappoint when it came to Miguel O’Hara’s looks, especially his butt. Considering, for years, many female characters have been drawn to appeal to the male gaze, the Spider-Verse creators wanted to even the playing field by making Spider-Man 2099 a thirst trap from day one. Moreover, director Justin K. Thompson took the credit for Miguel’s “absolutely ginormous a–.” he said:

Even though we might not see Kang in the MCU anytime soon after Majors’ falling out, we will eventually see Oscar Isaac‘s Miguel once again in the highly anticipated threequel.
