Makeup-free selfie
On March 24, the singer known for her hit “Single Soon” took to Instagram, sharing a black-and-white photo showcasing her makeup-free look. The caption simply read, “Real.” Additionally, she posted another makeup-free selfie on her Instagram story, featuring a close-up shot of herself squinting at the camera. As one of Instagram’s most followed users, Gomez received an outpouring of love in the comment section.
Camila Cabello exclaimed, “Good god woman have mercy,” while Lily Collins praised her as “real stunning inside and out,” and Nicola Peltz Beckham showered her with compliments, writing, “you’re so beautiful,” accompanied by three pink sparkly hearts. Gomez also shared glimpses of her day, including a snapshot of herself in an oversized white T-shirt and a collage with her former “Wizards of Waverly Place” co-star, David Henrie, as they prepare to produce a reboot of the popular Disney Channel show set to air this fall.
It’s ok to be me
In recent years, Gomez, 31, has embraced authenticity, particularly regarding body image. In January, she bravely addressed body image issues on social media by sharing before-and-after shots of herself in a swimsuit, seemingly captured by paparazzi. Alongside the younger bikini-clad image, Gomez expressed acceptance, acknowledging, “Today I realized I will never look like this again…” In a subsequent photo wearing a more modest swimsuit, she affirmed, “I’m not perfect but I’m proud to be who I am.
Sometimes I forget it’s ok to be me.” Gomez has been candid about her health struggles, including lupus and bipolar disorder, which have led to fluctuations in her weight due to medication. She highlighted the toll of online hate on body image, recalling instances when she responded to hurtful comments while privately battling emotional distress. Gomez emphasized the unfairness of body shaming and the importance of self-acceptance, advocating against perpetuating negativity towards oneself or others.
