This Shadow of the Erdtree secret is sure to save the lives of many game controllers.
SUMMARY
- The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC is an extensive addition of content to FromSoftware’s Elden Ring.
- The final boss fight features an attack that has the player toast if carried out twice.
- There is only a single counter to this attack, obtained after defeating another boss in the Realm of Shadow.
As many FromSoftware releases have witnessed over the years, some players will always grind through freshly launched content as soon as it comes out, reaching the end in no time. However, with Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, the studio seems to have broken this practice by introducing a new way the player can lose while fighting against the final boss if they are not careful enough.
In the battle against Promised Consort Radahn done atop the Enir-Ilim tower, the tarnished would find himself fighting what is likely the reincarnation of the demigod in his prime. Unfortunately, the real trouble begins when he gets accompanied by none other than Miquella, becoming the consort of the empyrean twin and performing a grab attack that will have you toast in no time.
FromSoftware Introduces a New Way to Lose in Elden Ring: It Only Has a Single Counter
The final boss fight present in the DLC has two different phases to it. As mentioned earlier, it is particularly the later part of the battle that happens to give the player many troubles, introducing a new attack one could have never imagined seeing before in the game.
Among the many other movesets, Radahn, in his later phase, has a unique grab attack, catching the tarnished character and raising him to Miquella, who further works his charm on the player. If the attack is successfully carried out twice, then the fight is over, as the tarnished character surrenders against his will and goes down on one knee in an act of worshipping the empyrean.
The final fight is sure to make victims of many game controllers, and there remains none but a single counter to this attack. By equipping Miquella’s great rune, found within the DLC itself, the player can use it after the first grab attack to negate the charm’s effect and give themselves another chance.
Where to Find Miquella’s Great Rune in the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC
To obtain the Empyrean’s great rune, the player must travel to the Scadutree Base, where they will find the Scadutree Avatar boss. It is after defeating this enemy that the great rune will be dropped, which can then be used in the final fight.
By heading over to the item’s official description, one can also observe how its purpose has already been hinted, foreshadowing how the battle to end the tarnished’s journey in the Realm of Shadow would play out.
Alternatively, there are many other great bosses in the game that the player can choose to fight against, including the likes of Midra, Lord of Frenzied Flame, and Bayle the Dread.
