After many months of anticipation, rumors, and all sorts of buildup, Elden Ring is finally about to release its much-awaited expansion. This is the latest work that FromSoftware has presented so far, and players couldn’t be more excited to try everything it adds to the overall game. Many fans of this IP are eager to see several revelations about the story, including many new and deadly bosses.

Unfortunately, not all fans are pleased with this new content. Despite the initial positive reviews and numerous perfect scores, some players appear to disagree with this.

The difficulty has been an issue for this content.

Will the studio listen to these complaints?

On social media, especially on X (formerly Twitter), various users complained about the extreme difficulty of this expansion compared to the base game. It appears that Shadow of the Erdtree is much more challenging than expected.

FromSoftware Couldn’t Balance the Difficulty of This Elden Ring DLC

Some users have claimed that the difficulty of this expansion is excessively high, rekindling the classic debate over whether the games from this studio need a difficulty selection option.

Some fans are afraid that this could be one of the hardest DLCs we may ever experience from FromSoftware.

Practically since the birth of the Soulslike genre, there has been ongoing discussion about whether the Japanese studio should allow users to choose their difficulty level. In all the titles made by this developer, none offer a difficulty selection; they all have a pre-set difficulty level.

One of the major strengths of this studio’s games is that the lack of difficulty options attracts more players, resulting in millions of sales with each new title released. Elden Ring itself has already sold over 25 million copies without needing to add a difficulty selection. Nonetheless, several users complained that it is frustrating to want to explore the map and always die at the hands of a random enemy due to the high difficulty.

Shadow of the Erdtree will launch on June 21 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC. As in the past, the studio is likely to ignore the complaints from a small portion of players and maintain the original difficulty design that all these games possess. The main appeal of these titles, as always, is that their difficulty serves as a filter for certain players who lack the patience or desire to endure the constant frustration of dying.
