The African-American Star Fans Demanded as Lead in The Amazing Spider-Man Before Andrew Garfield

Andrew Garfield’s portrayal of Spider-Man has become one of the most iconic versions of the character. Embodying the very essence of the character, including his charm, his wittiness, and his ability to joke in the more inappropriate of times, the love that the actor gets for this character is well deserved.

Although these opinions are held by the majority, when the film was originally coming out, a lot of people had a lot of things to say. This is not surprising as the films had to follow up the ridiculously high standards set by Tobey Maguire’s films. Such a strong love for the Sam Raimi films made many publicly voice their opinions on the casting of the web-slinger.

Before Gafield was announced in the role, there were many who though someone else would be better suited for the role. Someone who not only ended up making his way into the MCU as a different character, but also inspired the creation of a new one in the comics; Miles Morales.

When the making of The Amazing Spider-Man was announced, many were putting forth names of actors who would be suited for the role. Andrew Garfield’s name wasn’t as recognized at that time so the names came from all corners of the industry. Glover’s dedicated fans put his name in the mix too, and soon, the news spread like wildfire.

Although Miles Morales’ name has become just as well-known as Peter Parker’s, the character isn’t nearly as old as him. Having made his first appearance in 2011, Bendi revealed to USA Today that a huge inspiration for his character was Glover and the role he played in Community.

Unfortunately, the actor has not gotten an opportunity to portray Miles. However, he has played his uncle, Aaron Davis in two separate films. First appearing in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and then again in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, there is no denying how iconic Glover is.
