Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 Gets New Update From Sony

One major Sony executive gives a new update on Spider-Man 4 as he teases the future of Tom Holland in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. One of the most highly anticipated films coming up for the MCU is Holland’s Spider-Man 4, especially following the ending of Spider-Man: No Way Home. While many have been sharing their predictions for Spider-Man 4, Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios have been very tight-lipped about the sequel.

In an interview with Deadline, Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman, Tom Rothman, spoke about the future of Holland’s Spider-Man. Without giving spoilers, Rothman described Spider-Man 4 as “a significant event.”

Since it’s unclear if Holland is meant to return for only Spider-Man 4 or a sequel trilogy, it begs the question of what Rothman’s “significant event” comment could be about. The biggest possible reveal to come out of Spider-Man 4 is if the MCU finally introduces Miles Morales, which could pave the way for Peter to pass on the Spidey legacy. Spider-Man 4 could literally see Peter taking on the role of a mentor for someone like Miles, especially after he gets bit by the spider that gets him his powers.

The bigger mystery, however, is whether Spider-Man 4 will be Holland’s final time starring in a Spider-Man movie. Even though Peter is more than likely to appear as part of the Avengers 5 and Avengers: Secret Wars cast, it wouldn’t be shocking if Spider-Man 4 wasn’t the start of a new trilogy for him, but more so a setup for his conclusion in The Multiverse Saga. Since Avengers: Secret Wars is rumored to be a soft reboot for the MCU, The Multiverse Saga is a natural point for Holland to conclude his time as the web-crawler.

Given the long time it is taking for Marvel and Sony to nail down a creative vision for Spider-Man 4, it could boil down to them and Holland trying to decide if this is the beginning of the end for him in the MCU. With how big Spider-Man: No Way Home was, the stakes are definitely higher than ever for Spider-Man 4. Hopefully before 2024 is over, more news will arrive about Spider-Man 4, including when they will actually start filming.
