A Russian woman who horrified the world when she married her 23-year-old adopted son has now filed for divorce.

Aisylu Chizhevskaya Mingalim, 54, from Tatarstan, Russia, first met Daniil Chizhevsky when she was working as a singing teacher at the orphanage where he lived.

He was just 13-years-old at the time.

Soon after, she adopted Daniil and has raised him since he was 14.

But just eight years later, things took a dysfunctional turn when Aisylu and Daniel decided to tie the knot in a wedding ceremony held in Kazan.

Rather unsurprisingly, the couple were met with massive backlash following their nuptials.

And, child welfare officials were so horrified by the marriage that they seized Aisylu’s five other adopted children – one boy and four girls – from her care.

The children were then reportedly either placed into care homes or reunited with their biological families, and the couple fled to Moscow after people in their hometown turned against them.

Aisylu also shared how their wedding ruined her relationship with her family.

“Now neither Dad nor Uncle Renat, who used to understand me, are there anymore,” she said. “And those who remain are afraid the dirt will rub off so they turned away.”

But, things seemed to initially be going well between the pair who changed their dynamic from mother and adopted son to husband and wife, with Aisylu saying it was ‘perfect.’

“Our relationship is perfect. We can’t live without each other. We are on the same wavelength,” she told local media at the time.

But things seemed to have now taken a bitter turn as a heartbroken Aisylu has revealed that the pair have split less than a year into their marriage.

After learning that Daniil was arranging hook ups on dating sites, his adopted mother felt she has no choice but to get a divorce.

“I was embarrassed to admit it,” she confessed.

Aisylu isn’t the only woman to have undergone a rather unconventional marriage. Marina Balmasheva, 38, previously made headlines after revealing that she was leaving her husband to wed her stepson.

She’d known Vladimir ‘Vova’ Shavirin since he was seven-years-old.

At the time of their nuptials in 2020, Marina was 35 and Vladimir was 20. They have since had two children together.

While relationships within adopted families aren’t unheard of, in the UK, there are rules in place as to who you can and can’t marry.

The Adoption and Children Act 2002 states that an adopted person is to be treated in law as if they were the biological child of their adopters or adopter. Therefore, a person cannot marry their adopted parent and vice versa.

If they attempt to get married, it will be automatically void.

However, adopted children are allowed to marry the rest of their adoptive family, including adoptive brothers or sisters.

Rules on adopted relationships may vary in different countries.
