Zootopia 2 confirmed release date, coming sooner than expected

Zootopia 2 has a confirmed release date. Released in 2016, Zootopia was a critical and commercial hit, with glowing reviews praising the social commentary and animation. It grossed more than a billion dollars worldwide at the box office. Following this success, Zootopia+, a series of shorts focused on secondary characters from the original film, was released on Disney+ in 2022. Zootopia 2 was confirmed to be in development in February 2023.

As per Disney, Zootopia 2 will be released in theaters on November 26, 2025. It is confirmed to be the previously untitled Disney animated movie that was on the release schedule for that date, and is sooner than anticipated for the Zootopia sequel. This will come a year after another highly-anticipated Disney animated sequel’s theatrical release, with Moana 2 debuting in theaters on November 27, 2024.

What Will Be The Story Of Zootopia 2?

Outside of confirmation of Zootopia 2 being in development and now having a release date, other details about the long-awaited Disney animation sequel have been kept under wraps. The characters of Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde will presumably return, with Ginnifer Goodwin and Jason Bateman reprising the voices for the popular characters. Supporting characters from the first film may also return, including Chief Bogo (Idris Elba), the crime boss Mr. Big (Maurice LaMarche), and the DMV employee Flash Slothmore (Raymond S. Persi).

Zootopia ended with Nick graduating from the police academy and becoming Judy’s partner in law enforcement. The sequel will likely follow Judy and Nick’s partnership as they work together to solve cases for the city of Zootopia. This could take place soon after the first movie or years later when they are more seasoned in their careers. The story can build on their relationship and dynamic from the first film, with Judy and Nick’s relationship potentially becoming more romantic.

These characters returning seems inevitable, yet there is a possibility that the sequel will take place in Zootopia, and mostly or entirely focus on new characters. This would be a divisive move given the popularity of the original characters, but Zootopia is a diverse city with a long history and plenty of unknown animal characters and dynamics to explore. This direction is possible, but Disney will most likely bring back Judy and Nick as the stars of Zootopia 2, along with many of the memorable supporting characters, many of whom can be helpful as the central duo investigate new cases.
